A promise kept
For the thousands of fans of Korean heartthrob Lee Min Ho, his return to Manila on Saturday for a concert is more than just a performance -- it is a fulfillment of his promise.
The actor, best known for his leading role in the 2009 hit drama series Boys Over Flowers, was in Manila for four days last November for the launch of his endorsement deal with Filipino clothing brand Bench.
Filipino fans mobbed Mr. Lee wherever he went. At one mall, hundreds of fans showed up as early as 3 a.m. to secure a good spot to watch the 26-year-old actor at his 4 p.m. appearance.
The overwhelming show of support prompted Mr. Lee to promise to return to Manila.
“Filipinos are so warm and friendly, and they are known worldwide for that,” the actor told reporters through an interpreter last November. “I feel like if I have to come [to the Philippines] and visit again, it will always be like a vacation, a relaxing experience,” he added.
This Saturday night, the South Korean superstar will perform at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The concert is part of Mr. Lee’s world tour to promote the release of his debut album My Everything. Aside from Manila, the tour includes concerts in Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and Hong Kong, among others.
FROM ACTING TO SINGING
As an actor, Mr. Lee would often sing at fan meetings and other promotional events, prompting his fans to request he release an album. With the help of music producer Hwang Chan Hee, the actor gave in to fan demands and released the seven-track My Everything on May 22.
Mr. Lee is expected to perform cuts from the album at Saturday’s concert, including the carrier single “My Everything,” as well as “Pieces of Love,” “Love Motion,” and “My Princess.”
“My only goal is to become a great actor and singing is not my thing,” Mr. Lee was quoted as saying in a statement after the release of the album.
“I just prepared this [album] to thank my fans and give something back to them after receiving so much love and support fro

This post has now been updated with VIDEO PROOF sent to me from the UK late this afternoon. No one should be consuming Kraft Mac & Cheese, especially children, considering the warnings on this label. The label has 2 distinct warnings:

Genetically-modified (GM/GMO/GE) food, once seen as the answer to world hunger, is now widely considered a scourge to the health of humans, the environment and farming around the world.
Beneath the campaign of silence by the western media, food and farming activists are fighting harder than ever to expose these dangers and remove GMOs from the food supply.
But for all their efforts, these activists have missed one of the central points: economics.
US grain production, chiefly GM corn and soybeans, is not only a HUGE business – think not just food, but animal feed, ethanol and industrial uses – it is a strategic weapon of Wall Street. By keeping US grain cheap, and using GM patent protection, the agro-industrial complex – Cargill, Monsanto, DuPont, ADM, Potash, Caterpillar, etc. – has been able to dominate US agriculture AND hold the developing world ransom. Our "cheap" grain is exchanged for crippling economic "conditionalities" that prevent India, Mexico, Egypt and similar countries from achieving economic independence.
Why is grain cheap?
1. Incredible efficiency with hidden costs. No crops are biologically equipped to be grown in 1,000+ acre monocultures. Without untold quantities of fertilizer, pesticides and other chemical agents, our food supply would collapse under the weight of disease and insect damage. These artificial methods have put our soil, groundwater and biological diversity in grave danger.
2. Wall Street and Welfare. The farmer is paid on average 40% of his costs for a bushel of wheat. The other 60% comes from the commodity futures markets (which make the farmer dependent on contracts from the Cargill-controlled grain cartel), direct taxpayer assistance from the Farm Bill, and the farmer's own debt.
3. GMOs. With the incredible economic pressure on farms to get big, grow every square of land and cling to Wall Street for protection, GMOs have been seen as a necessity, replacing careful management with indestructible poison factories that look like corn and soybeans.

We need New York residents to really step up, but you can call/email in support from anywhere in the world. Let them know that the rest of the USA and World is watching them and want GMO labeling! Connecticut very recently passed their GMO labeling bill but stipulates that in order for their bill to “trigger,” 4 other states (one must border CT) with a combined population of 20 million, must pass similar bills. NY not only borders, but has a population of near 20 million alone. LET’S DO THIS!!

Monsanto shares fall as South Korea joins pause in wheat imports-
' As a precaution, South Korea, which last year bought about half of its wheat imports from the United States, said it would halt purchases while it runs tests this weekend on wheat and flour that it has already imported. The European Union is also testing supplies.
“This is an embarrassment for Monsanto, not as much with the public as it is with food companies, ” said Gene Grabowski, executive vice president of Levick, a communications and public relations firm. Grabowski, a former senior executive at the Grocery Manufacturers Association, said cereal and other food product firms selling in Japan or Europe haven’t wanted to go to the expense of making sure their wheat sources were free of genetic engineering.
“I was in board meetings where I remember food company CEOs who were very concerned about the idea that Monsanto was pushing for approval for biotech wheat,” he said. “They didn’t want it because they already had their hands full dealing with repercussions of biotech corn and soy.” '

When the People speak, Congress listens. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, the Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, is now pledging to oppose the extension of the 'Monsanto Protection Act' -- thanks to Sen. Jeff Merkley's amendment to repeal the provision and an overwhelming push of support from the American people.
Please call Senators Stabenow and Cochran today, as they will be deciding which Amendments to include in the Farm Bill. Remember to thank Sen. Stabenow for her pledge to repeal the 'Monsanto Protection Act', but remind her that Farm Bill amendments that support the following should not be ignored:
-Brown #1088 would increase funding for eat-local and farm-to-consumer programs;
-Gillibrand #940 sought to address factory farms' drug abuse problem, which is contributing to antibiotic-resistant superbugs contaminating our local waterways;
-Grassley #969, Rockefeller #993, Tester #971, Enzi #981/#982 -- these amendments collectively support reigning in the factory farm and meatpacking cartels that subject contract farmers to abusive practices that reduce food quality, animal welfare and worker safety.
The health of the American people is more important than corporate interests. Amendments that seek to provide the American people with local, healthy Real Food choices, stop farm animal abuse and increased antibiotic use are critical for inclusion in the 2013 Farm Bill.

I know Senators Stabenow and Cochran are currently considering which amendments to include in the Farm Bill and that the Farm Bill will be voted on this Monday. -Brown #1088;
-Gillibrand #940; and
-Grassley#969/Rockefeller#993/Tester #971/Enzi#981/#982 -- would collectively support funding access to local farm-to-consumer programs, address factory farms' reliance on increased antibiotic-resistant drug use; and reigning in the factory farm and me

Think you can plant genetically modified seeds with your crop and no one will notice? Better not try it in Hungary, where agriculture officials literally took a scorched-Earth approach to GMO seeds, which are banned there, and burned 1,000 acres of corn crops. Much of what was burned was believed to have come from seeds made at the genetic-engineering company Monsanto, but farmers complained they didn't realize the seeds were modified — and Monsanto denies selling any seeds to Hungary farmers. An independent laboratory in France tested the seeds Monsanto says they sold to Hungary and found no GMO. GMO seeds are allowed across much of the rest of the European Union, but there is growing world-wide objection to Monsanto and other genetically engineered food producers.

Got diabetes? Watch out for HFCS, it's in nearly everything these days, it's GMO, it's toxic, bad for your brain, bad for your pancreas, bad for your waistline, and very addictive. Always read the ingredients (because companies are not going to be obvious about the toxic processed ingredients they're hiding in your food if they don't have to).

A major piece of farm legislation went down to a surprising and dramatic defeat in the House on Thursday, as conservatives joined with most Democrats to oppose the $940 billion bill.
The House voted 195-234, with 62 Republicans joining 172 Democrats, to defeat the bill. The vote was regarded as a surprise, and represented an embarrassment to the House GOP leadership team.
President Barack Obama had threatened to veto the House legislation had it somehow eventually reached his desk.
Democrats were angry about the heavy cuts to food stamp programs contained in the Republican-written legislation, prompting all but 24 of them to oppose the legislation. Conservatives, who had come under pressure from groups like the Club for Growth and the Koch Brothers-linked Americans for Prosperity, cited concerns about the legislation’s hefty price tag in voting down the bill.
Farm bills are typically authorized in five-year increments, but an agreement on the latest installation of such legislation has eluded Congress. Farmers are currently operating under a farm bill from the beginning of this year that was extended, in parts, through the end of September.
Democrats were the majority to vote nay to to food stamp cuts and need for further subsidy reforms, and the Republicans that joined with nay votes were also calling for further subsidy reforms.

Junk food and sugary drinks will be pulled from U.S. schools next year as part of a nutritional overhaul aimed at improving child health and tackling obesity.
The “Smart Snacks in School” standards released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture today remove such options as full-fat chocolate cookies, fruit snacks and candy bars offered at lunch and in vending machines, replacing them with healthier foods such as peanuts, light popcorn and fruit cups. Elementary and middle school children can drink water, milk and juice, while high school students also will be offered beverages with 60 calories or fewer in a 12-ounce serving.
The snack rules, which had been proposed in February, take effect in July 2014, giving schools and suppliers time to adjust to requirements that promote foods high in whole grains, dairy, fruits and vegetables, the USDA said. The guidelines don’t apply to foods sold after school or brought from home. Bake sales, fundraisers and sweet treats at parties are still allowed.

Global Threat to Food Supply as Water Wells Dry Up
Wells are drying up and underwater tables falling so fast in the Middle East and parts of India, China and the US that food supplies are seriously threatened, one of the world's leading resource analysts has warned.
In a major new essay Lester Brown, head of the Earth Policy Institute in Washington, claims that 18 countries, together containing half the world's people, are now overpumping their underground water tables to the point – known as "peak water" – where they are not replenishing and where harvests are getting smaller each year.
"The world is seeing the collision between population growth and water supply at the regional level. For the first time in history, grain production is dropping in a geographic region with nothing in sight to arrest the decline. Because of the failure of governments in the region to mesh population and water policies, each day now brings 10,000 more people to feed and less irrigation water with which to feed them."
Brown warns that Syria's grain production peaked in 2002 and since then has dropped 30%; Iraq has dropped its grain production 33% since 2004; and production in Iran dropped 10% between 2007 and 2012 as its irrigation wells started to go dry.
"Iran is already in deep trouble. It is feeling the effects of shrinking water supplies from overpumping. Yemen is fast becoming a hydrological basket case. Grain production has fallen there by half over the last 35 years. By 2015 irrigated fields will be a rarity and the country will be importing virtually all of its grain."
There is also concern about falling water tables in China, India and the US, the world's three largest food-producing countries. "In India, 175 million people are being fed with grain produced by overpumping, in China 130 million. In the United States the irrigated area is shrinking in leading farm states with rapid population growth, such as California and Texas, as aquifers are depleted and irrigation water is diverted to cities."

Thank you to GMO Free Jackson County for sharing this delightful news!
CONGRATULATIONS! SB633 IS DEAD!!!
All your calls, sharing and signing of the petitions, to let Oregon politicians know that we will not allow pro-GMO, top-down laws that force the will of corporations upon our people and force our farmers into structures of servitude!
Oregonians for Food and Shelter and the Oregon Farm Bureau are very powerful lobbies. Therefore, to see their bad-for-the-state-GMO ban preemption law go down in flames is an awesome testament to the POWER OF THE PEOPLE in supporting that fight.
We got confirmation that the push back on SB633 from you and others was exponentially the single loudest message received this session - bar none. A big round of applause and shout out to all who helped.
With the defeat of SB633, citizens of Jackson County Oregon can now vote for their local GMO crop ban in the May 2014 election. Other counties across the state now have GMO ban initiatives in the works too, and now they can vote if they get on their local ballots.
